Course Editor

The Course Editor is where you input your curriculum after copying a Community Template or creating courses from scratch. OpenSky needs course outlines in order to create schedules for your students, so we've built robust tools to make adding this information as painless as possible.

Starting With the Upload Bot

The fastest way to build a course is to use the Upload feature:

You can upload:

  • Images
  • PDFs
  • Text pasted from a website
  • Spreadsheets
  • Photos of table of contents pages

From there, you'll have a brief Q&A session with our AI upload bot. This helps the bot understand the structure of your curriculum, ensuring an accurate extraction.

Editing Lesson Data

Once your outline is imported, you can click any scheduled item to:

  • Label it as a lesson, quiz, or test
  • Add page numbers or links
  • Update titles
  • Add instructions or notes for students to view during learning

Everything is editable.

Organizing with Drag and Drop

The editor supports full drag-and-drop:

  • Reorder lessons
  • Move lessons into or out of folders
  • Restructure units and chapters

Numbering Settings

Curricula differ in how they number lessons:

  • Unit-based (1.1, 1.2...)
  • Continuous numbering
  • Chapter resets

Just click Settings to change numbering setting to match your book's structure exactly.

Publishing the Course

Once everything looks right, click Publish. Students immediately gain access to the lessons and all associated content.

Common Questions

Q: Can I import multiple times for one course? A: Yes! You can upload additional content and merge it into an existing course structure.

Q: What happens if the AI upload bot makes mistakes? A: You can edit any lesson directly in the Course Editor. The AI provides a starting point, but you have full control over the final structure.

Q: Can I duplicate a course to use with multiple students? A: Courses are shared across your homeschool. You enroll individual students in the same course with different pacing and schedules.

Q: How do I add supplemental resources to a lesson? A: Click any lesson to open the editing panel, where you can add links, attachments, instructions, and notes.
