Daily Checklists

The Checklists section is where daily learning takes place. Students and parents both use this view to access lessons, complete work, communicate, and track day-to-day progress.

Daily vs. Weekly View

At the top, you can toggle between:

  • Daily View — a focused list of today's lessons
  • Weekly View — a broader picture of what's happening across the full week

Families that prefer less screen time can instantly export the checklist to a printable PDF.

Opening the Lesson Drawer

Clicking on any lesson opens the lesson drawer, a central workspace where students see everything they need:

  • Links
  • Page numbers
  • Instructions
  • Attachments
  • Custom notes

If you added guidance during course setup, this is where students access it.

Comments & Communication

Students can leave comments if they're confused or want to check in. Parents receive a notification and can reply directly. Students are notified when parents respond — making this a simple two-way communication channel.

Submitting Work

Students can upload assignments or photos of completed pages directly inside the lesson drawer. Everything stays organized in one place.

Parent Tools Inside the Drawer

When parents open the same view, they also see:

  • Grading tools
  • Private teaching notes

Lesson Movement

From the lesson drawer or lesson More (...) menu, you can:

  • Skip a lesson
  • Move it to tomorrow
  • Move it backward
  • Mark it complete
  • Generate supplemental material
  • Start the next lesson immediately

All changes automatically update the student's schedule.

Generating Extra Lessons

If a student needs more practice, click Generate New Lesson. OpenSky creates an AI-powered supplemental lesson and schedules it exactly where you want it.

Common Questions

Q: Can students see parent notes? A: No. Parent teaching notes are private and only visible to parents. Students only see instructions and notes marked for them.

Q: How do I print the weekly checklist? A: In Weekly View, click the print/export button to generate a PDF. This is perfect for offline work or posting on the fridge.

Q: What happens when a student marks a lesson complete? A: The lesson is marked as done and moves off their active checklist. Parents can review completed work and add grades or feedback.

Q: Can I customize what appears in the lesson drawer? A: Yes! When setting up or editing a course, you can add links, page numbers, instructions, and attachments for each lesson.
