The Checklist

Using Your Checklist

The checklist is where you run your school day. It comes in two pages:

  • Today — everything that needs attention right now: what is overdue, what has come back for revision, and what is scheduled for today.
  • Upcoming — the days ahead, so you can look forward, plan, and move work around.

Both are in the left nav under Checklists, and in the bottom bar on a phone.

The toolbar

Every checklist page has the same toolbar across the top:

  • Event — add an event to the schedule.
  • The person menu — choose whose checklist you are looking at. Your own row reads "Your name (Me)", followed by Students and then Other parents.
  • Layout — choose how the page looks, and what it shows.
  • Print — open the print dialog. See Printing Your Checklist.
  • The bell — your alerts.

Choosing a layout

Click Layout to open the view options:

  1. List — a single scrolling column, grouped by day. Best on a phone.
  2. Board — columns you can drag work between. This is the default.
  3. Calendar — a traditional calendar grid.

When you pick Calendar on the Upcoming page, you can also choose how much to show: 3 day, Week, or Month.

Two more controls live in the same panel:

  • Show completed — whether finished work stays visible. It is on by default, and the setting is shared across Today, Upcoming, and all three layouts.
  • Edit lesson colors — set the color for each lesson status, including Ungraded.

Getting work done

Each row has a circle on the left. Click it to tick the work off. What the circle does depends on the lesson:

  • Mark complete — finish the lesson.
  • Done for today — for a weekly lesson, clear it from today while leaving it in place for the rest of the week. Reopen today puts it back.
  • Submit for review — when your student is on the submit-for-review workflow. See How Students Use OpenSky.
  • Mark pending — undo a completion.

Click anywhere else on the row to open the lesson drawer, where you will find the directions, tasks, and attachments.

Anything past its date carries a Due: pill — "Due: yesterday", "Due: 3 days ago" — so you can see at a glance how far behind a lesson has slipped.

The sections you will see

Today groups work by what needs doing:

  • Overdue — anything left from previous days.
  • Needs revision — work you sent back to a student.
  • Today — what is scheduled for today.

Upcoming shows Overdue first, then one section per day.

When you are looking at your own checklist as a parent, two more sections appear at the top:

  • Ungraded — completed lessons waiting on a grade, for courses you have asked to grade every lesson. See Setting Up Grades and Organizing Courses.
  • Submitted for review — work students have handed in. Appears only when there is something in it.

Changing the day

Hover over any date heading and click the ⋯ button to open the day's menu: mark everything complete, move incomplete lessons, add a daily note, set attendance, or take the day off. Staying Flexible with Your Schedule walks through those options.
