Student permissions
Choose what each student can see and change on their own.
Updated
Student portal settings control what a student sees and can do once they sign in. They sit below the sign-in card on the student's Student Portal tab, in seven collapsible sections.
Changing a setting#
- Open the student's page and click the Student Portal tab.
- Under Student portal settings, expand a section.
- Flip the switch or pick an option. Each change saves straight away.
Learning#
- Use Submit for Review workflow — the student submits lessons for you to approve instead of marking them complete. Courses to enable Submit for Review sets All or Subset. See Submit for review.
- Signal: Curriculum fit insights — short check-ins after lessons. See Signal.
- Allow access to Book List — adds a Book List page with the books tagged on their courses and activities. The nested Allow student to add, edit, and delete books lets them change it.
- Attach files & edit PDFs — upload files to lessons and edit attached PDFs.
Appearance#
- Color scheme — Sky, Meadow, Sunset or Berry, seen on the student's next sign-in or refresh.
- Text size — Default, Large or Extra large.
- Dyslexia-friendly font — switches the portal to Lexend.
Layout#
- Focus mode only — the portal is just Today in the Focus layout, one lesson at a time. Upcoming is hidden. See Layouts.
- Timer clock — the focus timer (5, 10 or 20 minutes) in the Focus layout's lesson card. Turning it off also turns off music.
- Focus music — the ambient music switch on the timer card.
- Allow Upcoming access — whether the student can see lessons on future days.
- Today layouts allowed — which of List, Board and Calendar they can pick on Today. At least one stays on.
Tools#
- Print — the Print button in the checklist toolbar. See Printing your checklist.
- Notification bell — the alerts bell in the toolbar. Notifications are still delivered either way. See Notifications.
Motivation#
- Celebration animations — confetti, cheers and the completion sound when lessons are completed.
Scheduling#
- Move lessons — reschedule lessons to other days.
- Skip lessons — mark lessons skipped and regenerate the schedule.
- Create events — add events to their own checklist. They can only change or remove events they created.
Grading#
- See grades — show grades in the portal. When off, the student cannot enter any either.
- Add & edit lesson grades — enter, change and clear lesson grades on their own courses. Teacher notes and course grades stay private to parents. For one course only, leave this off and use that course's Student Permissions settings. See Grading lessons.
Defaults#
Most switches start on. Use Submit for Review workflow, Allow access to Book List, Dyslexia-friendly font, Focus mode only, Create events and Add & edit lesson grades start off.
