What does OpenSky schedule?

The kinds of things OpenSky puts on the calendar, from course lessons to activities and school days.

Updated

OpenSky keeps one school calendar for the household and places everything a student does onto it. Here is what lands on the calendar and the daily checklist.

  • Course lessons — each course is a list of lessons, and OpenSky places one on each of the course's teaching days from its start date, either a fixed number per day or spread out to finish by a date. When you move a lesson or take a day off, the lessons after it shift forward. See Courses and Course pacing.
  • Books — a book can be scheduled a chapter or a page range at a time, like course lessons, or added as a free read that sits on the checklist until it is finished. See Scheduling books.
  • Activities — one-off or repeating items such as co-op, sports, chores and field trips, with an optional time. They land on the days you choose and can, if you want, push that day's courses forward and count towards attendance. See Activities.
  • Teaching days — the days of the week you teach. Lessons are only ever placed on these days; the others are shaded on the calendar. See Creating your first calendar.
  • Holidays and breaks — named ranges of days off, each with a colour and icon. Lessons skip them and move to the next teaching day. See Adding holidays and breaks.
  • Days off for one student — sick days, weather days and absences recorded against a single student, which take that student's lessons off the day. See Attendance.
  • School years — the term that each student's grade, first and last day, attendance totals and reports are filed under. See Adding a new school year.

Where it shows up#

Each student has a Today and Upcoming checklist of what is due, the Calendar page in the sidebar holds the household calendar and every student's attendance, and the same schedule can be shared to Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook. See Today and upcoming and Calendar integrations.
