Student Management

The Student section is where you manage everything for each learner in your homeschool.

Available information

From the Student Profile, you can:

  • Enroll students in courses or events
  • See all courses the student is enrolled in
  • View a timeline showing how courses span the school year
  • Grant access to their Student Dashboard

Give Students Access to their Student Dashboard

Students don't need email addresses to access their dashboard. Each student receives a one-time access code that links their Student Portal to that device. After that, login is automatic. You can adjust permissions of what students are allowed to access.

Enrolling in a Course

To enroll a student:

  1. Select a course
  2. Choose the first lesson
  3. Pick the teaching days
  4. Set pacing:
    • "Finish by date" OR
    • "Fixed number of lessons per day"

You can preview how the schedule will look before confirming.

Adding Events to the Student Calendar

Add recurring or one-time events like:

  • Co-op days
  • Tutoring sessions
  • Sports
  • Appointments

These automatically shape the student's weekly rhythm.

Managing Individual Courses

Inside any enrolled course, you can adjust:

  • Pacing
  • Start date
  • Grading
  • Lesson movements
  • Progress tracking

Common Questions

Q: Can I have multiple students with different schedules? A: Yes! Each student has their own calendar, pacing, and teaching days. You can manage them all from the same homeschool account.

Q: What Student Dashboard permissions can I give students? A: You can control whether students can mark lessons complete, view grades, upload assignments, and more. Set these in the student's profile.

Q: How do I change a student's teaching days mid-year? A: Go to the student's profile, update the teaching days, and OpenSky will recalculate the schedule for all enrolled courses.

Q: Do you have a Student Dashboard app? A: Not yet, but one is coming soon!
