Overview

What does OpenSky offer?

A tour of the main pieces of OpenSky — courses, the checklist, scheduling, grades and reports.

Updated

OpenSky has four parts, and each one feeds the next: curriculum becomes a schedule, the schedule becomes a daily checklist, and the checklist becomes your records.

Curriculum#

  • Course editor — build a course as units, lessons and tasks, with directions, resources and due dates. See Course editor.
  • AI course edtior — upload a table of contents or syllabus and let AI draft the lessons for you to edit. Or, tell the AI agent what you want changed and it will automatically do it for your across the whole course.
  • Community templates — add one of 2,000+ courses shared by other families in a click. See Community templates.
  • Books — keep a reading list for each student and schedule books as courses. See Books.
  • Activities — track recurring tasks like chores and soccer practice, or add one-off to-dos when you think of them. See Activities.

Scheduling#

  • School calendar — set your school year, teaching days and holidays once and update whenever you need. Lessons are paced across the remaining days and move when the calendar changes. See Adding holidays and breaks.
  • Course start date — if you're adding a course that starts in the future, or already started, it's easy to add things no where you are. See Course pacing and Block scheduling.
  • Pacing tools — start a course late, pause it, change its pace, or block-schedule it. See Course scheduling.
  • Activities and events — co-ops, field trips and appointments sit beside lessons on the checklist. See Activities.

Recheduling#

  • Move lessons — everyday is unique, which is why it's easy to drag and drop lessons to the next day, automatically rescheduling the course See moving lessons.
  • Overdue lessons - sometimes you miss an entire day or week, with one click you can move all overdue lessons to a new date, and cascade out the entire schedule. See managing overdue lessons.

Daily learning#

  • Today and Upcoming — each student's checklist, on the web, in the iOS and Android apps, or printed. See Today and Upcoming.
  • Checklist layouts — there are many ways to view lessons on the checklist, find what works best. See Layouts.
  • Submit for review, comments and uploads — students hand work in, you return it with feedback, and the conversation stays on the lesson. See Submit for review.
  • Student portal controls — decide what each student can do, from moving lessons to seeing grades. See Permissions.

Records#

  • Attendance — kept on the calendar, with a printable attendance record. See Attendance.
  • Gradebook — grades and hours per course, with course-level notes. See Gradebook.
  • Transcripts and portfolios — one PDF when a reviewer or evaluator asks for it. See Transcripts and Generating a portfolio.

Setup and integrations#

Invite other parents, give each student their own sign-in, share your calendar with Google, Apple or Outlook, and connect an AI assistant that can read your students' learning profiles and draft curriculum. The rest of this Setup tab covers each of these.

One plan covers everything above with unlimited students, after a free trial. See Updating billing for how billing works.
